Free Tilly?

Many of you saw and heard about the horrible event at Sea World last week when the Killer Whale Tilikum killed it's trainer Dawn Brancheu. A horrible tragedy from every angle. Now, there is debate on freeing Tilly. While this may sound like the best option, there are many problems with this course of action. Tilly was captured from the wild and after a few places ended up at Sea World for 30 years. Tilly cannot survive in the wild anymore. However, life in a small tank with little hopes of training in shows again does not lead to a great quality of life either.

So where does this leave Tilly?

Unfortunately, stuck for awhile until someone can come up with a good idea. Hopefully this will be a lesson to no longer take wild animals from their natural habitat and trying to make them fit our lifestyles. While I always dreamed of working at Sea World, this situation breaks my heart. Rescue and release, rehabilitation, even whales and dolphins born in captivity are not nearly as trivial is this.

Hopefully Tilly won't become the second casualty in this situation.
